Better Bulldogs

Striving for Perfection

Hello, and  Welcome to BetterBulldogs.    We are located in Macclenny, nestled within the pine woods of North Florida.

Why the name BetterBulldogs?  Our goal is simple, we are striving for a bulldog that is agile, quick, nimble and above all athletically versatile, a better bulldog.

We are a family with two children, a 16 yr old girl and an 8 yr old boy, we, as many parents, need a bulldog that can withstand a teenagers rough wrestling, (after all--IT IS A BULLDOG) then enjoy a younger child's sugar-charged affection and being drug around with a rope (Daddy, I'm teaching him to walk on a leash).

As we all know, the present and popular version of the English Bulldog is susceptible to heat exhaustion and a myriad of other health concerns.  Though loving and loyal, athletic is a word never used to describe but the rarest of  English Bulldogs, (EB).  We strive to keep our Olde English Bulldogges (OEB) with the muscular frame, muscular chest, thick head and wrinkles we love on the English Bulldog while retaining the athleticism of the Old English Bulldog between 14 and 16" tall weighing between 45-60 lbs.  This has proven to be the appropriate playful, companion, and couch size.   Whether you want The Milk Bone Dog, UGA from the University of Georgia, Handsome Dan from Yale, or Chesty from the USMC or even Mack of truck fame, look at what we offer and compare our athleticism against the many health problems you will pick up with the "pure english" bulldogs.  Please forgive me for not mentioning EVERY school or organization that chose the Bulldog as their mascot.

What is a pure dog anyway?   Historically speaking, they are Wolves.  Our intervention made them better and more suited to today's society within our homes and hearts by selective breeding for desireable health and traits.   Why do they insist on breeding one sick EB to another sick EB?  Why can their dogs not have their own puppies or even breed?  I have seen too many sick EB's to want to follow that pursuit.  Hardly befitting of the mascot for our US Marines.

We didn't make the Bulldog, We Made 'em Better.

The Bulldog of the 18th century was small to medium height, agile, speedy  these Bandogges, as they were called, were tethered until called upon for the brutal sports of fighting and bull-baiting, because they were unruly and vicious.  In breeding the ferocity out, we humans, have also bred out the agility and performance, replacing them with breathing difficulty, skin allergies and lethargy.

We love the Bulls--NOW OUR CHILDREN CAN LOVE THEM TOO!!

We have been developing this bulldog since 2001, but have been breeding different bulldogs for years before this plan was cemented in our hearts.  We are different in the sense that what we have striven for yesterday, today and tomorrow is UNCHANGING.  Our dogs will NEVER get larger because the current fad sways that way this month.  We are working on  perfecting our compact agility based Bulls.

We are a small family  operation, now presently housing only a few pets and puppies at select times..  We strive for Each and EVERY one of our puppy parents to be pets first.  Some of our future parents are presently housed with their 'parents' in their forever homes.  This is done to perpetuate our line and to ensure the affection due to each and every dog.  Great joy is taken each time we revisit one of our puppies and see not only the happiness in the dog's eyes, but also hearing the owners enthusiasm and awaiting their next BetterBulldog puppy.
